How fees are paid

## Payment and quarterly conversion

The euro amount is the legal fee. Each consulate publishes its own U.S.-dollar equivalent, recalculated every quarter at the ministry’s reference rate.

**Accepted payment**Fees are paid by **money order** or **cashier’s check** made out to the specific consulate. **Cash, credit, and debit cards are not accepted** at U.S. Italian consulates.

**Quarterly conversion**The current period is **Q3 2026 (July 1 – September 30, 2026)** at **EUR 1 = USD 1.1651**. Rates are re-set on January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1. Always confirm the amount against the consulate’s current fee sheet before paying.

Where to pay

## Which consulate applies these fees

The tariff is national, but a fee is paid to the office that serves the applicant’s U.S. state of residence; it cannot be chosen.

Italian consulates in the U.S. **do not translate** vital records. Where a translation is required, the applicant supplies it and the consulate only certifies that it conforms to the original (Art. 72A/72C).

**Where a translation fee comes from**

The consular translation-conformity fee is separate from the translation itself. Partenza provides the professional English-to-Italian translation of U.S. birth, marriage, and death certificates. [Get a quote →](/us/en/)
