Why I needed a bookkeeper
Partenza is just me. Every hour I work goes to one of two places, and the place I want it to go is a client’s certificates. Translating a birth, marriage, or death record for an Italian consulate takes real attention; a single formatting slip can hold up someone’s citizenship application for months, so it isn’t work I can hurry through. The books are what usually gets pushed aside when you run a business alone. Receipts pile up, the bank balance stops matching the records, and by tax season it has turned into a cleanup job. I didn’t want to spend my first year fixing that, and I didn’t want to give up translation hours to keep it from happening.
How Debora handles it
Debora took the books over before my first month had even closed. She built the accounting from scratch, connected it to my bank, and set up the accounts so every dollar has somewhere to go. Since then she does the monthly work: reconciling each account against the statements, sorting income and expenses as they come in, and keeping everything ready for tax time. What it changes day to day
The books close on time every month, and I don’t spend my own time closing them. That gives me back hours for the documents people are waiting on. It also means that when I have a decision to make, whether to take on more work, change a price, or put money back into the business, I can look at real numbers instead of guessing from a bank balance. When you work on your own, the few things you hand off have to be done well. This is one of them.
